History:
The Bac Ha Dog is a medium sized spitz-like mountain dog that, in history, was used for guarding the home and hunting by the Hmong people in northern Vietnam, particularly in Bac Ha district and in Simicai in Lao Cai province. They are descended from heavier-coated mountain dogs in southern China, and when the Hmong people migrated there, they also took these dogs with them, some of them being Bac Ha Dogs and Hmong Bobtail Dogs.
Appearance:
Bac Ha Dogs have a thick double coat comprised of a stiffer, moderately long outer coat and a wooly undercoat. They also have small triangular ears and two ear sets: button ears and pricked ears. Button ears are the standard while pricked ears are not, according the the Vietnam Kennel Association (VKA) Bac Ha standard. Bac Ha Dogs come in many colors, and come in all colors (both in and out of standard) with the exception of merle.

Height (males): 52-58 cm (20-22.8 in)
Height (females): 50-56 cm (19.7-22 in)
Weight (males): 22-28 kg (48.5-61.7 lbs)
Weight (females): 18-24 kg (39.7-52.9 lbs).
Temperament:
Intelligent, independent, and bold, the Bac Ha Dog is aloof and keep a distance from strangers. In their territory, they are alert without signs of shyness nor fear. The breed has strong instincts to protect the owner's property.
