History:
Hmong Bobtail Dogs are an ancient medium sized primitive hunting breed used by the Hmong people to hunt and guard the home in the north Vietnamese mountains, and are descended from dogs with natural bobtails in the southern China. They have a shared history with the Bac Ha Dog despite being completely different breeds.
Appearance:
The Hmong Bobtail Dog is a square, muscular, stocky dog with a solid build. They often have a less prominent tuck than other breeds, and have a short muzzle and blocky head with medium-sized, wide-set triangular ears. Their short, wash-and-wear hard double coat lies close to the body without any feathering. What sets the Hmong Bobtail apart from other breeds is that they often have a bobtail of various lengths, ranging from completely tailless to a longer half-bob, with the lengths allowed in the breed standard being from 3 to 15 cm (1.2-5 in). While they can also come in full tails, it is a disqualifying trait in the show ring.
Size:
Height (males): 48-54 cm (18.9-21.3 in)
Height (females): 46-52 cm (18.1-20.5 in)
Weight (males): 18-26 kg (39.7-57.3 lbs)
Weight (females): 16-24 kg (35.3-52.9 lbs).
Temperament:
Hmong Bobtails are aloof towards strangers and highly territorial. With their owner, they are loyal, calm, and friendly.
